Our team (AriAnA) and at least one another RoboCup rescue robot team (Jacobs Bremen) use Videre STOC in our labs with successful results at indoor applications.

Steve,We have been using Videre Stereo cameras with good results, in particular a stereo camera with 6cm baseline would work for your range I think. We have ROS drivers in ua-ros-pkg repository so it should work out of the box.AntonOn Mon, Oct 4, 2010 at 5:59 PM, Steven Nelson <sa.nelson2@gmail.com> wrote:
Adam,
Range would be 3 - 5 feet (manipulating objects on a tabletop environment). Scene would be somewhat static. Cost: less than $5k for both.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve-What is your application? "Best" would depend on things like desired sensing range, cost, and use for static or dynamic scenes, at a minimum.--Adam
