I think there is a big chance that it compiles on the various VS versions and OSs. Of course, testing it explicitly is always a good thing. I think we start with one setting and than everybody will find out for himself if it works with his compiler/OS and then suggest patches. But we need one master setting in order to keep things simple. Windows 7, VS2008 is not a bad choice.
