I enabled a print inside the rosinstall git.py to check the exact command being run: Cloning into /opt/ros/electric/orocos_kinematics_dynamics... remote: Counting objects: 2284, done. remote: Compressing objects: 100% (885/885), done. remote: Total 2284 (delta 1496), reused 2092 (delta 1363) Receiving objects: 100% (2284/2284), 667.50 KiB | 760 KiB/s, done. Resolving deltas: 100% (1496/1496), done. Git Installing: git checkout orocos_kinematics_dynamics-0.2.0 -b rosinstall_tagged_branch --track fatal: Cannot setup tracking information; starting point is not a branch. The problem is the "--track" option being passed to git checkout as tracking tags is not allowed in newer git versions (I believe since v1.7.4.2, the exact commit is http://git.kernel.org/?p=git/git.git;a=commit;h=21b5b1e8dc9bed2b518defe29d69ebc27da4b68f) So I guess it's a rosinstall bug and not something specific to electric.
