It looks like OPC was (before OPC-UA) tied to Microsoft COM? Are people currently using OPC-UA with robots in manufacturing? If so, it could be interesting to create a bridge to ROS. You might start with rosbridge (http://www.ros.org/wiki/rosbridge); it was originally designed for building web interfaces, but can be used more generally to access a distributed ROS system with a single socket. Do you know what parts of ROS would be interesting or useful to OPC-UA users? brian.
