Felix, I am currently writing a ROS stack for interfacing with industrial components/systems. Currently, I am focusing on industrial robot controllers, but my long term vision would include all aspects for industrial systems. This would certainly include OPC communications. What is your interest in OPC and ROS? Do you have a specific application in mind? -Shaun ________________________________________ From: ros-users-bounces@code.ros.org [ros-users-bounces@code.ros.org] on behalf of Brian Gerkey [gerkey@willowgarage.com] Sent: Monday, October 24, 2011 10:50 AM To: User discussions Subject: Re: [ros-users] ROS and OPC/OPC-UA On Mon, Oct 24, 2011 at 8:31 AM, Meßmer, Felix wrote: > I’ve spent some time searching, but I haven’t found any references on this: > > I’m currently trying to bring ROS and OPC-UA together. > > OPC-UA is the latest specification of OPC - a long-time standard in industry > (especially in process control and manufacturing automation) that specifies > communication and data exchange between devices of different manufacturers. > > See www.opcfoundation.org hi Felix, This is the first I've heard of OPC. It looks like OPC was (before OPC-UA) tied to Microsoft COM? Are people currently using OPC-UA with robots in manufacturing? If so, it could be interesting to create a bridge to ROS. You might start with rosbridge (http://www.ros.org/wiki/rosbridge); it was originally designed for building web interfaces, but can be used more generally to access a distributed ROS system with a single socket. Do you know what parts of ROS would be interesting or useful to OPC-UA users? brian. _______________________________________________ ros-users mailing list ros-users@code.ros.org https://code.ros.org/mailman/listinfo/ros-users
