The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow for a two-year position working on the development of robust, automated tracking algorithms using stereo imagery for autonomous underwater vehicle missions in the ocean midwater. The position will involve training machine learning (ML) algorithms using MBARIs 25-year, manually annotated, underwater video database, integrating ML-enabled tracking with ROV and AUV control algorithms, and testing the developed algorithms on underwater vehicles in Monterey Bay. The candidate should have a background in machine learning, computer vision, and robotics; experience working in the field is desirable. A PhD degree in Computer Science or a related field, and experience with implementing machine learning algorithms on imagery are required. The selected candidate must be able to work with diverse groups of people. The position may also include occasional participation on oceanographic cruises to test automated tracking algorithms on ROVs and AUVs, as well as travel to scientific meetings.
