I am very interested in the new sensor, and have one of the new ones from the Xbox One.

Can anyone comment on getting the Kinect from the Xbox One up and running for experimenting with it whether this alpha program is really the best way to go?

Clearpath has one and has been experimenting; it is much better than the Kinect 1.0. Unfortunately, the terms of the alpha agreement means we're not able to share detailed technical specs or datasets yet.

Supposedly the new and much improved Kinect Version 2 which uses a different technology make Prime Sense obsolete.  I can't believe that we have not heard more about the new sensor.

Anyone know the scoop?

I had seen this coming, neither ASUS nor Prime Sense ever made a big publicity of their product which was much better than MS Kinect. On the contrary LEAP, that is also a motion controller/sensor though of a different design/make etc and cannot be a replacement for ASUS or Prime Sense, they did make lot of publicity of their product.

Even then, I would be surprised if ASUS Xtion went off the stores as ASUS has a gaming console [1] based on the Xtion !

Primesense has shrunk their website down to just a single page and taken down all information on their sensors. I just sent them a message through a form on their site. Has anyone heard, are they no longer selling cameras? I need the Carmine 1.09 for my boxing robot that I hope to bring to market in the next few months.

Asus Xtion Pro Live (Carmine 1.08 clone) is on the Asus website but they've pulled it from their store.

If they are no longer available that's going to be a huge blow to robotics projects everywhere.
