I was not aware of that, thanks for pointing it out.

Actually I am less interested in the serialization mechanism itself. Any 
format would do, but the useful part for me would be the ability to 
display it in rviz.

Providing rviz displays with an URI option for a bagy seems like a 
reasonable solution.

This could also be extended to support binary messages, when the bagy 
YAML format is not needed (large, non-human-readable messages).
