just a shot in the dark, but I've seen similar compile errors when there's local installs of wxpython (python-wxgtk2.8) or wxwidgets (libwxgtk2.8-dev).  Assuming you're also running ubuntu, we solved this issue by manually wiping local installs and using the rosdep installed version.<br>
