Dear friends,
We are organizing a Cloud Robotics workshop at IROS 2013. Here is the
call for Papers, Posters, and Demos. Please feel free to forward this
to anyone you think would be interested.
Hope to see many of you there.
Best,
Gajan

Tokyo, Japan
Full day workshop, in conjunction with the
2013 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems
Important Dates
-----------------------
Paper submission deadline: +31 July 2013
Notification of acceptance: +7 September 2013
Camera-ready submission deadline: +30 September 2013
Workshop: +3 November 2013
Organizers
----------------
Dr. Markus Waibel, ETH Zurich, Switzerland
Prof. Ken Goldberg, University of California Berkeley, CA, USA
Prof. Javier Civera, University of Zaragoza, Spain
Dr. Alper Aydemir, NASA – JPL, CA, USA
Dr. Matei Ciocarlie, Willow Garage Inc., CA, USA
Mohanarajah Gajamohan, ETH Zurich, Switzerland
Aims and Scope
------------------------
Cloud Robotics is an emerging field of robotics rooted in cloud
computing, cloud storage, and other Internet technologies centered
around the benefits of converged infrastructure and shared services.
Driven by the rapid progress of wireless technology and availability
of data centers, recent years have seen the rapid development of
software frameworks and services that allow robots to leverage the
powerful computational, storage, and communications infrastructure of
modern data centers – the giant server farms behind the likes of
Google, Facebook, and Amazon – for robotics tasks and robot learning.
This two-part workshop will provide an overview of the
state-of-the-art, provide a platform for discussion and exchange of
ideas, and allow researchers to gain hands-on experience with
state-of-the-art Cloud Robotics tools.
---
Part 1 (Talks): Invited talks and contributed paper presentations.
Confirmed invited speakers (barring changes in travel plans):
* Michael Beetz, TU Bremen, Germany
* Johnny Lee, Google Inc., USA
* Larry Matthies, NASA – JPL, USA
* Matei Ciocarlie/Kaijen Hsiao, Willow Garage, USA
* Sarah Osentoski, Bosch, USA/Germany
---
Part 2 (Live demos): Live demonstrations, hands-on session, posters,
and discussions
This part will provide an opportunity to see state-of-the-art Robot
Cloud Computing platforms and services in action. It will also include
opportunities to try out and experiment with cloud services yourself
(bring your own ROS-installed laptop) and a poster session. We’ll also
set aside some time for discussions on both technical aspects and on
where this research field is headed in the near future.
List of topics
------------------
Cloud computing and web services for robots
Online knowledge bases and storage technologies
Knowledge representation, reuse, and interoperability
Cloud robotics platform design
Leveraging existing cloud technologies and resources
Leveraging existing big data
Submissions
-------------------
Submission and review process will follow the standard IROS main
conference submissions. The page limit is 6 pages. Papers should be
prepared in the IROS format detailed both in the workshop and main
conference websites. Papers violating the paper length and formatting
requirements may be rejected without review.
Extended versions of select papers may be included in an upcoming
Special Issue on Cloud Robotics (currently under negotiation).
Papers should be submitted through the following site:
https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/CR2013/
Live demonstrations are also welcomed, simply contact the organizers.
