If you set the CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE, you should do it in a already defined
guard:

if(NOT DEFINED CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE)
set(CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE Release)
endif()

That way it can still be explicitly overridden if desired.
