Subject: Re: [ros-users] Primesense cameras no longer available?
Microsoft released 500 units of "alpha" version of Kinect Version 2 for PC
through a developers program:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/kinectforwindowsdev/newdevkit.aspx

I'm one of those developers in the program, and the new sensor is more
accurate and more robust to adverse lighting conditions. If you search for
"Kinect for Windows alpha" there are several videos of preliminary results
from developers around the world. The final retail version is planned for
the summer.

It seems Microsoft have extended the program to 500 more developers until
January 31st, so there is a new chance to get your hands on one. Anyways,
as far as I can see, the device is actually the Kinect that comes with XBox
One, but including an adapter from the proprietary Kinect V2 connector to
USB 3.0. And, of course, access to the SDK... but open source drivers are
already in development: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/openkinect
