This is indeed the issue, applying the patch from
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=ports/152771 fixes
"rostopic echo /tf" again.

I've also added a list of the ported stacks to
http://www.ros.org/wiki/cturtle/Installation/FreeBSD
