We had the same issue over at Ask Fedora recently. We've had to activate
manual approval of all posts for the time being. 

Another solution we tried out is to use stopforumspam:
http://askbot.org/en/question/12514/integrate-with-stopforumspam/

It's quite easy to deploy. There's a pull request open upstream if
you're deploying askbot behind a proxy like Fedora infrastructure does:

https://github.com/benjaoming/django-stopforumspam/pull/7/files

I haven't been able to test it out yet, though.
