Greetings ROS users,

We're excited to announce the availability of the buildfarm for the next
distribution of ROS, Kinetic Kame!

An update on the Kinetic release so far:

We've specified the minimum system requirements for Kinetic, including
C++11 and Qt5, in REP-0003 (1). 94 packages have been released into Kinetic
at the time of this writing, with binaries available for Ubuntu Wily and
Xenial (2). You can also compare packages that have new releases for
Kinetic versus the version released for Jade (3).

If you maintain a package with dependencies that have been released into
Kinetic, you can start releasing for the new distribution.

Make sure that bloom and python-rosdistro are up-to-date before starting
your release.

If your package's dependencies haven't been released yet, start
coordinating with the maintainers of your dependencies to release the
necessary packages. bloom will fail and notify you if your package's
dependencies haven't yet been released into Kinetic.

Please record any API changes or major behavioral changes in your package
on the Migration wiki for Kinetic (4).

Once your package has been added to Kinetic in rosdistro, you can generate
a prerelease command on prerelease.ros.org.

There is a known package conflict caused by a dependency on different
versions of python-vtk in OpenCV 3 and PCL. If you run into this problem
while releasing your package, subscribe the issue on rosdistro to get
updates (5).

The Kinetic release date is May 2016, but it's good to get started early
(especially if many packages depend, directly or indirectly, on yours)!
