Hi, well the auv_msgs was indeed to be used on a higher level, but we can consider if it is possible to expand the functionality. I don't know what other people think but it might be a good idea to have everything in one message package? or maybe not, but it might be worth discussing the possibility at least. 
If you want we can open an Issue in the [github](https://github.com/oceansystemslab/auv_msgs) page and take if from there.
