You can try using the [ros2-arch-deps](
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ros2-arch-deps/) package to get the basic dependencies, install the colcon package through pip (`pip3 install -U colcon-common-extensions`) and then follow the instructions to [get the code and compile](
https://github.com/ros2/ros2/wiki/Linux-Development-Setup#get-ros-20-code). Skip the "Install dependencies using rosdep" step since those are provided by the `ros2-arch-deps` package. I have been able to successfully compile the current release using these steps.
