I'm not sure it solves any of our issues directly, but on the web side of things we have been using [schematics](https://schematics.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) and [Transmute](https://aiohttp-transmute.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) to do input validation via [Function Annotations](https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-3107/).
